Well, it looks like you won’t be able to forget Rabia’s birthday for the next few years. I don’t know if this is generally a problem for you, but it’s something to keep in mind. Myself, I can’t remember my own birthday, let alone family members’. A nice thing about living overseas is that you can remember a few days later and just buy something online with the, “oh, it must have gotten stuck somewhere in the mail” excuse. I have used this three times already, and will probably use it again when I forget my Dad’s birthday next week.

So, consequently, you may want to move to Tanzania. I hear it’s quite dry, so bring plenty of moisturizer.

I can understand the concern on your part. The thing is, if someone has that type of money to spend on her loved ones, then by all means, allow them to do so. Myself, I would love to get extravagant gifts for those I car about (something that I cannot do being the starving college student that I am). Gifts come from the heart (usually, at least =P), and they wouldn’t give it to you unless they wanted to do so. As the others have said, try to repay in kind (not necessarily monetarily) when the situations are reversed.

I read this in Dear Abby column once. As far as I recall, you should accept it, and as people have previously suggested, do something nice for her in return. You could tell her not to do that again because it makes you uncomfortable, but you can’t stop her. I WISH I HAD YOUR PROBLEMS.

Quit whining and accept it! It’s her money; if she wants to waste it on you, that’s her right. As AJ said, make sure you do something nice for her birthday.

I suggest you just gratefully accept it for now. You can’t really complain or she’ll be offended. For her birthday, just make sure you make up for it, big time. ;0

Save the cash and get her something that retails for 200+ if you want. It’s up to you.
